2016 elections beckon and as has been the tradition in recent times,
some Ghanaian musicians are likely to show their bias for their
preferred presidential candidates and political parties and possibly
compose songs to support their campaign.
Multiple award-winning highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena says he will
not hesitate to rally his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking to Afia Schwarzeneggar on Aben Wo Ha on Kasapa 102.3 FM
Thursday, the ‘Aso’ hit singer revealed that he has been an ardent
supporter of the NPP flagbearer since 1998 and that support still holds.
“I will still support Nana Addo since I feel he is the only politician
that has the ability to steer the nation’s development in a direction I
identify with and I can use my voice to propel that cause.”
Kwabena Kwabena was among the Ghanaian artistes that openly supported
various parties during the 2008 general elections and recorded a song
titled ‘Number One’ for Nana Addo. Other artistes who also recorded
songs for politicians included Daddy Lumba, Lucky Mensah and A-Plus.
Kwabena Kwabena also expressed his admiration for the 2012 CPP
Presidential Candidate, Dr. Abu Sakara and NPP running mate Dr. Muhammed
Bawumia for their high level of competence and intelligence
demonstrated as far as economics is concern.
“I had a personal encounter with Dr. Abu Sakari and Dr. Bawumia and I
was impressed at their capabilities and high level of intelligence
displayed. Sometimes we have to hail people who are frontiers in
Ghanaian Politics.”
