Labourer jailed 25 years over anal sex with minor

A labourer who had anal sex with a seven year old girl at Kotobabi in Accra was on Wednesday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Charged with defilement, Emmanuel Kwame pleaded guilty.

Kwame is alleged to have committed a similar offence and was left of the hook for want of prosecution after spending three years in lawful custody

The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, convicted Kwame on his own plea.

Prosecution said the victim attends school at Kanda, Accra and lives with his uncle at Nima. Kwame also resides at Maamobi, a suburb of Accra.


On November 16, at about 1000 hours, Kwame saw the victim in her uniform while walking along the road, trying to cross to the other side to School.

Kwame assisted the victim and put her into a commercial vehicle.

Prosecution said Kwame alighted with the victim at a spot and lured her into a building, where he undressed the victim and had sex with her through the anus.

After the act, Kwame put the victim into a commercial vehicle and sent her back to school.

The victim, however, narrated her ordeal to her class teacher and Kwame was arrested.

Prosecution said the Police issued the victim with a medical form so she could be examined and treated.

Kwame in his caution statement denied having anal sex with the victim but maintained that he only inserted his fingers into the victim’s vagina.
