Asa Khalifa who was widely known as Old Sodja revealed recently on an
interview on Ultimate FM, a UDS campus radio that all Kumasi rappers are
“sick”.
He was been questioned by the host on the entertainment segment, D.J
Item, on which Kumasi-based artist he would love to do a song with.
“Honestly, it will be difficult for me to know which artist to do a
song with. All Kumasi rappers are equally good and on top form. They are
“sick” with their raps”, he confessed.
Asa Khalifa also revealed the reason why he changed his name from Old sodja to his present name.
“This is not a showbiz name. Its my own name. In fact, I wanted people
to know me by my real name and not any other identity. When I featured
Guru in his song “Pastor”, I wanted my identity to be hidden but because
of stubbornness he mentioned the name once at the beginning of the
song”.
The “Is too late” hitmaker also revealed that he was the one who
identified Kofi Kinaata and even sent him to a studio to record a song.
“I sent Kofi Kinaata to a studio one day, and his raps received heavy
applause from the people in there. Today, Kofi Kinaata is on top form
and am glad to help”.
D. J Item also questioned him on the current trend of the Ghanaian Highlife music and how he think it was moving.
“Highlife music is done better in Ghana than any other place. We can do
it better than any other country. Today, there is Bisa Kdei and the
others who are helping. One day, King Dee, told me sometime ago that the
High Life music has taken a new trend which I must adopt but I said no
because I can fit in at any moment. People seems to forget that we are
also into this genre”.
Asa Khalifa is currently promoting his song “movement” through the various media houses across the country
